6 Awesome Things to do in the Mont-Tremblant National Park

Considering its proximity to Montreal and to the National Capital Region of Canada, the Mont-Tremblant National Park is very popular all year round. While during the winter you can cross-country ski and snowshoe, there are tons of great activities to do in the warmer seasons. This park offers great hiking trails, impressive waterfalls, and an amazing location for paddling sports. With all these options, how to choose? Don’t panic! Here’s my list of 6 amazing things to do in the Mont-Tremblant National Park during the summer and fall seasons in the Devil Sector (De la Diable) of the park:

1. Hike the La Roche trail

This is probably one of the most popular trails in the park. Considering the incredible views, you get for the effort, it’s understandable. This is a 5.4 km (3.36 mi.) round trip trail that should take 2 hours to complete. The trail is categorized as intermediate difficulty. On the way up, you are greeted with a beautiful lush forest with a little stream. At the lookout point, you can just sit down, relax, and take in the views of the park, of Lake Monroe, and of the Devil’s River. It’s just a great trail for people of all ages. Dogs are allowed on this trail under certain conditions.

Location: The trail head is located at the La Roche parking lot or at the Discovery Center.

2. Adventure up the La Corniche trail

Even easier than the La Roche trail, La Corniche offers similar views at a different angle. This 3.4 km (2.11 mi.) long trail (intermediate difficulty) follows a creek and small cascade on the way to the lookout point. If you are staying at the park for a few days, I recommend you do both La Corniche and La Roche on separate days. Dogs are allowed on this trail under certain conditions.

Location: The trail head is located at the Corniche parking lot at 1.7 km north of the Discovery Center.

3. Why not do both with the La Coulée trail?

La Coulée Trail is composed of 3 separate trails, La Roche, La Corniche and La Coulée. First, you begin by hiking up to the La Roche lookout point. Once there, you then head to the La Corniche lookout point. After that, head down to the La Corniche parking lot where you will follow a trail which goes along the roadway back to the La Roche parking lot. This is an 8.2 km (5.10 mi.) loop which should take around 3 hours to complete. The advantage of this option is you get to enjoy both major lookout points while hiking on a well-maintained trail.

Location: Car start either from the La Roche or the La Corniche parking lot.

4. La Chute-du-Diable (Devil’s Waterfall)

After a short easy 0.8 km hike (15 min.), you will discover a very impressive waterfall. You can hear the sheer volume of water from far away. This is the best waterfall in the entire national park and a must visit attraction when in the park.

Location:  Chute du Diable parking lot (7 km north of the Discovery Center).

5. Les Chutes-Croches (waterfall)

This 720-metre round trip hike will allow you to discover a cool little waterfall. While not as impressive as the Devil’s Waterfall, still worth the stop when visiting the park.

Location: Chutes-Croches parking lot (5 km north of the Discovery Center).

6. Kayaking on Lake Monroe

One of my favourite things to do in Quebec’s national parks is to rent a kayak and enjoy some time on the water. Without the presence of motorized crafts, the Lake Monroe is very peaceful. There, you can navigate your way into different small bays and head up the lake until you reach the Devil’s River. You can stop on nearby beaches and relax on a nice summer day. While rental fees may vary, I paid 32.50$ for 4 hours for a solo kayak and had plenty of time to have a great time and explore the area. Just like the access to the trails, you will need to purchase a day pass or have an annual pass to enter the park to rent a kayak. For more information on rental fees, please visit the SEPAQ’s website.

Location: Lake-Monroe Visitor Center.
