Interzip Rogers: The World’s First Interprovincial Zipline

Officially opened on June 24th, the Interzip Rogers became the world’s first interprovincial zipline connecting both sides of the Ottawa River. While the Ottawa River has represented a natural barrier between the province of Quebec and Ontario for centuries, locals and tourists can now cross this beautiful river in the heart of the National Capital Region of Canada while soaring through the sky. With this new and unique attraction in the region comes tones of questions. In this post, I describe my experience, give all the necessary details, as well as provide my personal opinion on it.

Important information:

  • No minimum age requirement
  • Maximum weight: 275 lbs
  • Minimum weight: 70lbs
  • Can’t bring your own filming gear
  • Cannot fly if pregnant
  • Must be able to walk to and up the main tower

What exactly do you get for your buck?

Well, for 39.99$ +tx for adults and 29.99$ +tx for kids 14 years and under, you can probably enjoy the most unique experience in the downtown core this summer. Soaring at a 120 ft off the water at speeds averaging between 40 to 50 km/h for 1200 feet, you will get incredible views of the surrounding area, including the Parliament of Canada. While the flight lasts around 40 seconds, the process itself takes between one hour to one and half hours to complete. On top of the initial zipline tower, you can fully take in the beauty of both cities.

What to expect once you arrive at the main office?

Once you arrive at the main office at 40 rue Jos-Montferrand (paid parking available nearby), you will receive your main gear, including a helmet and restraints. Afterwards, you will make your way to the initial jump tower which is situated across the Ottawa River on the Ontario side. The walk will take you around 10 minutes to complete. While crossing the Chaudière Bridge, take some time to admire fantastic views of Parliament Hill and some of the most important political institutions in Canada. Once you arrive at the tower, a staff member will help you get geared up before heading up the tower. At the top, they will finalize the process by tightening all the equipment. On this zipline, you will be in a sit-down position.

After counting to 3, you will be sent off for an awesome flight over the river. During the flight, look to your right to get views of the Parliament of Canada. Up front, you can see the entire Gatineau Downtown Core. To the left, you can spot the Chaudière Falls and hydro dam. Once you arrive at the end, get into the proper position and brace for the immediate brake.

At the landing platform, a staff member will help you down and you will then proceed to a short walk back to the main office. There, you will hand in all the equipment. You can also choose to purchase the footage of your adventure for 19$ +tx (see video above for an example of what you will receive).

Was it worth it?

Ok, I know what you are thinking. That’s almost 1$ per second of time in the air. Is it really worth it? The short answer is yes! First off, this isn’t just any other experience. This is a new and unique one situated in the heart of Canada’s National Capital Region. The price reflects its unicity and complexity. Think about the cost of riding the big wheel in Montreal’s Old Port. While there are other options in the region where you will probably get more for your money, this activity is strategically located, and you won’t need to take a car to get to it.

While for tourists 40$ is a normal cost considering how expensive activities are in the downtown cores, locals might find this to be expensive. In my opinion, this is just one of those things you will always remember doing. How many times have we crossed those bridges by car? Now, you can soar above all that. You have to look at this activity as a once in a lifetime kind of thing and not a once-a-week activity. All I can say is at the end, my heart was racing, and my mind was blown away by the views I got. So will you try the world’s first interprovincial zipline from Interzip Rogers?
