Lake Pemichangan: Awesome Paddle Destination Near Ottawa & Gatineau

Over the last few years, I have paddled on some breathtaking lakes in the Outaouais region of Quebec like Lake Edja and Lake Meech. Lake Pemichangan is definitely one of the most beautiful locations to explore and paddle in, whether it be with a paddle board, a kayak or a canoe. Like most lakes in the region, information on their access is not always readily available. In this post, I present all the necessary information to allow you to fully enjoy Lake Pemichangan and have a worry-free experience.

Getting to Lake Pemichangan

Before heading to Lake Edja, you must first wash your equipment. I do recommend doing this at home using a hose and biodegradable all-purpose soap. Lake Pemichangan is a very big lake. The water access can be found on Chemin de Point Comfort (in front of the Gatineau Fish & Game Club) in the town of Gracefield (Québec). From Gatineau, you can take the highways 5 and 105, and turn right onto Chemin de Point Comfort (look at the map below). Free parking is located on the side of the street near the boat ramp. At this location, you will also find paid parking for vehicles with boat trailers. Access to the lake is free for non-motorized equipment.

Once on the Water: Where to Go?

Lake Pemichangan is very big lake with multiple bays. I do recommend sticking to the left of the lake in order to follow the shoreline and the enter into a section of the lake which as many underwater rock formations (view map above). In the middle of that section of the lake, you will find a beautiful giant underwater rock formation as well as a few awesome bays to explore.

That being said, you can explore other parts of the lake where you will find other great sights. Throughout your journey, you will notice the beautiful turquoise-green colour of the water and amazing rock formations. Most of the lake’s shoreline is privately owned, but you can stop at different little bays to rest (be respectful of the lake’s residents). Bring a snack and a bag to bring back all your garbage in order to keep the lake clean.

Where to next?

Still looking for a nearby lake to explore? Why not check out the 31-Mile Lake or the Lake Edja in Gracefield (Quebec). Both offer amazing turquoise-green water in certain areas. You can also explore the Pont du Pierre waterfall at a 40-minute drive from the Lake Pemichangan or the Chute Rouge in Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau. Why not get a bite to eat the Restaurant L’Huile d’Olive in Bouchette (Québec)? Just some awesome activities to do in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau County of the Outaouais.
